Membership of Devon Furniture Makers is open to anyone working professionally as a designer/maker of furniture in Devon and we welcome applications from anyone who meets those criteria.
Membership of DFM offers, in particular, a ‘shop window’ through our high quality website, but also the mutual support of a group of experienced designers and craftsmen. Although in one sense we are all competitors, help and advice from DFM colleagues is, for many of us, one of the main benefits of membership. Members occasionally sub-contract work to other makers within the group or work together on large projects. We also organise exhibitions for members from time to time. A notable recent show was in the excellent space at RHS Rosemoor.
We aim to meet, to discuss current and proposed activities and other matters of mutual interest, three or four times a year, traditionally over supper at the White Hart in Okehampton. We also plan social occasions from time to time, usually including families.
As with any organisation our success relies on the commitment and energy of our members. Members contribute to the running of the Association by taking on administrative roles (secretary, treasurer etc) or making up working groups to organise exhibitions and other initiatives.
The membership subscription is currently set at £85 per annum. However, to help meet the administrative expense of adding a new member the first year's subscription is set at £136. As the subscription year runs from April to April, those joining in any quarter after the first will be entitled to a pro rata reduction in their first year's subscription.
In order to maintain the high standards expected by visitors to our website and exhibitions, we have an election process for new members. If you would like to join us, please complete an application form, either online or by downloading the pdf (see links at the side of this page) and submitting it to the secretary together with pictures of your work or a link to your website if that includes a suitable gallery page.
